What a Cedar Fence Really Costs in DFW (2026 Pricing)
A line-by-line breakdown of cedar fence pricing in North Texas — materials, posts, gates, tear-out and what drives the number up.
The short answer
Most residential cedar fences in Dallas–Fort Worth run $38–$58 per linear foot installed. A typical 180 ft backyard with one gate lands between $7,000 and $10,000.
What moves the price
Height (6' vs 8'), style (side-by-side vs board-on-board vs horizontal), post material (wood vs galvanized steel), number and size of gates, tear-out and haul-off of the old fence, and terrain or access limitations.
Where cheap bids cut corners
Wood posts instead of steel, no rot board, 8 ft post spacing instead of 6 ft, thin 5/8" pickets, and hand-dug 18" holes. Each one shaves a few dollars per foot and years off the fence.
What to ask for in writing
Post material and embedment depth, picket thickness and grade, rail count, gate frame material, warranty length, and who pulls the permit.
